Adif President Luis Pedro Marco de la Peña has submitted his resignation to First Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo, government sources told elDiario.es. The move came a day after Óscar Puente resigned as transport minister.

Cuerpo held an initial meeting with Marco de la Peña and the secretary of state for transport, two senior officials responsible for rail matters. According to the government sources, Cuerpo accepted the resignation and thanked Marco de la Peña for his work leading Adif.

Marco de la Peña had already told Puente of his intention to leave before meeting with Cuerpo on Wednesday. Cuerpo has taken charge of the Transport Ministry’s affairs.

At his most recent appearance before the Congressional Standing Committee, Puente defended Adif’s leadership, specifically naming Marco de la Peña and citing the independence of the company’s management committee. He also criticized what he described as unfair scrutiny of its leadership.
