Alton Towers has permanently closed its World of David Walliams attraction, the theme park has announced. The closure follows regular reviews of the resort’s attractions, according to the park.

The section opened in 2021 after Alton Towers’ creative team worked with Walliams and HarperCollins Children’s Books to develop it. Its rides and attractions included Gangsta Granny: The Ride, a 360-degree effects experience, along with Raj’s Bouncy Bottom Burp, Royal Carousel and Flavio’s Fabulous Fandango.

In a statement on its website, Alton Towers said guests should check the resort’s website and app for up-to-date attraction opening information before visiting, as the park is outside its main season.

Walliams became widely known through the comedy sketch show Little Britain, which he performed in alongside Matt Lucas. HarperCollins published his first children’s book, The Boy in the Dress, in 2008. He has since published more than 40 books, with sales exceeding 60 million copies worldwide in 55 languages. Gangsta Granny and Billionaire Boy are among his books adapted as television films.
