Timothée Chalamet became internationally known after Call Me by Your Name premiered in 2017, earning his first Oscar nomination for playing Elio. But three years earlier, he had appeared in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar as the teenage son of Matthew McConaughey’s character, Cooper.
Chalamet’s part is brief, lasting around five to ten minutes in the film’s first section. He plays young Tom before Casey Affleck takes over the role as the character grows older.
At an event in early 2026, Chalamet recalled that he was 17 when he was cast. He said he had looked up information about the project and initially thought the story would focus on a father and son. The young Tom role was later reduced, he said.
Despite the limited screen time, Chalamet has described Interstellar as one of his favorite projects and said it is the film he has watched more than any other. The 2014 release went on to earn five Oscar nominations and won for visual effects.
