Former Borussia Dortmund players Jude Bellingham and Alexander Isak both scored on Wednesday in the Champions League, but their teams had contrasting results. Real Madrid edged AEK Athens 3-2 with a goal in stoppage time, while Liverpool lost by the same score at Fenerbahçe Istanbul, suffering their first points loss in the competition.

Liverpool twice took the lead, through Trey Nyoni in the 25th minute and Isak in the 69th. Mason Greenwood equalised four minutes after Nyoni’s opener, and Archie Brown made it 2-2 in the 73rd minute. Vedat Muriqi scored the winner for Fenerbahçe in the 79th. Florian Wirtz came on for Liverpool and made an impact, but could not prevent the defeat.

Real Madrid’s win extended their run to seven consecutive victories in all competitions. AEK took the lead through Aboubakary Koita in the 12th minute, before Bellingham levelled with a backheel finish in the 32nd. Stavros Pilo put the hosts ahead again in the 75th minute, but Kylian Mbappé equalised three minutes later. Federico Valverde then scored in the second minute of stoppage time to secure the win.

Real coach José Mourinho started Antonio Rüdiger and Mbappé after his side’s victory over Barcelona. AEK had threatened early, with Luka Jović forcing a save from Thibaut Courtois before setting up Koita’s opener. Bellingham had also been involved in a disallowed Vinícius Júnior goal before scoring the equaliser. After the match, Koita was sent off for unsporting behaviour.
