High pressure is expected to bring settled weather across most of the UK this week as people prepare for Bonfire Night on Thursday and Diwali on Sunday, 8 November. Days are forecast to be mostly dry, with a mix of cloud and sunny spells, while nights will turn chilly and temperatures will drop into single figures.

A few showers could affect eastern Scotland and eastern England on Wednesday as an easterly wind brings rain in from the North Sea. The west is expected to see the best of the sunshine.

Thursday evening is forecast to be cold for people attending fireworks displays or bonfires, with temperatures falling to the mid-single figures overnight. Sheltered parts of northern Britain could see a touch of frost, and fog may form where skies are clear, particularly in the north.

The forecast is markedly colder than Bonfire Night last year. On 5 November 2025, some locations in the southern half of the UK stayed above 14C; it was the warmest Bonfire Night on record at several weather stations, including Southampton, Teddington, Portland, Bude and Anglesey.

Mostly dry, chilly conditions are expected to continue through the weekend as high pressure moves gradually east. Lighter winds could allow fog to become more widespread, especially under clearer skies. Low-pressure systems may return from the west next week, though the outlook remains uncertain.
