The Democratic Party has won the U.S. Senate and made decisive gains in the House in the midterm elections, in results described as a “blue tsunami” for the party. The outcome has also raised questions about what it could mean for Europe and relations across the Atlantic.
In a special episode, Zoya Sheftalovich is joined by Sarah Wheaton in Brussels and Jack Blanchard, POLITICO’s Global Politics Bureau Chief, reporting from Washington. Blanchard discusses election night and what he calls a “generational changing of the guard,” marked by major Democratic wins across the country.
The discussion considers whether Donald Trump, with his position at home more constrained, could turn his attention toward Europe, and whether transatlantic relations might sour further over the next two years.
