Election Day is underway in the United States, with control of Congress at stake. A record number of lawmakers are stepping down, and Democrats have an opportunity to regain control. Both parties have invested heavily in House races, while voters have raised concerns about the economy, the war in Iran, gas prices and corruption.

The results may take days to become clear. Attention is also on closely contested Senate races in Ohio, Kansas and South Carolina, where polls close earlier. NPR reported that strong Republican turnout could ease President Donald Trump’s concerns, while close races in South Carolina or Florida could point to a difficult night for the party.

Separately, a Massachusetts judge is weighing a request to dismiss the case against Lindsay Clancy. Plymouth Superior Court Judge William Sullivan is expected to announce a decision later this month. Clancy’s attorney asked the court either to dismiss the case or order a new trial.

Clancy faces first-degree murder charges over the 2023 deaths of her three children at their home in Duxbury. Her trial ended in a mistrial in September after jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict. The Plymouth County district attorney’s office has not said whether it will seek another trial or pursue lesser charges.
