Everton maintained a disciplinary measure against Jack Grealish, leaving the winger out of Monday’s 1-0 Premier League victory over Newcastle. The Manchester City loanee had also missed the teams’ League Cup last-16 meeting the previous Thursday, which Everton won 3-1.
The Sun reported that the club’s action was connected to two consecutive nights out. According to the newspaper, Grealish visited a karaoke venue in London after attending the Pride of Britain Awards on October 19, then went to a pub in Cheshire that same night. The report said he was there with acquaintances and Everton teammates Jordan Pickford and Tyler Dibling, as well as former Manchester City and England teammate Kyle Walker.
The Sun cited a source who said Grealish was in good spirits at the karaoke venue, where the group had drinks and sang before leaving in the early hours. The report said he returned to northwest England and attended Everton training on Tuesday.
Grealish previously played for Everton on loan last season, but a January injury required surgery and kept him out for the rest of the campaign. He returned to the club on another loan after struggling for opportunities at Manchester City. The report said he had made three appearances for Everton in this second spell.
Grealish has also faced disciplinary issues earlier in his career. In 2015, while at Aston Villa, he was pictured lying in a road during a holiday in Tenerife. Later that year, Villa manager Rémi Garde sent him to train with the club’s reserve side after a night out following a 4-0 defeat to Everton. In 2016, Aston Villa opened a disciplinary case after a hotel celebration in Birmingham led to police being called.
