Germany is unveiling a blueprint aimed at helping the country catch up in the global artificial intelligence race. The government’s AI task force says Germany should become a “sovereign AI nation” by 2030 and reduce its distance from leading AI hubs in the United States and China.

The report, obtained by POLITICO, was scheduled for release on Monday. It was also due to be presented to the National Security Council and discussed at an AI summit in Berlin.

The document describes the next 12 to 18 months as decisive for determining Germany’s direction in artificial intelligence. However, the available details of the strategy remain limited.
