Borussia Dortmund beat Betis Sevilla 2-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday, with substitute Konstantinos Karetsas scoring his first goal for the club to settle the match. The victory was Dortmund’s third in four games, bringing them closer to their goal of qualifying directly for the round of 16.

Dortmund had plenty of possession but struggled to turn it into clear chances. Julian Ryerson’s cross found Daniel Svensson in front of goal in the 21st minute, but he could not convert. Serhou Guirassy had also threatened early on, before leaving the field with a muscle problem after around half an hour.

Fábio Silva, who replaced Guirassy, put Dortmund ahead in the 49th minute with a follow-up finish. Betis responded through Aitor Ruibal in the 67th minute, but Karetsas restored the home side’s lead five minutes later. He created space against the Betis defence before placing a left-footed shot into the net.

Karetsas said after the match that he was grateful for the moment and described it as a strong team performance. He also said he felt well and healthy. The young Greek’s appearance came two months after he collapsed on the pitch.

Dortmund’s next Champions League match is away to Arsenal on November 24. The team will then face Inter Milan and Aston Villa.
