'La Bola Negra' has become the most-watched film in Spain in 2026, with more than 5.5 million tickets sold, according to figures from Rentrak and Elástica reported by Pau Brunet. The latest tally followed the previous weekend’s box-office results, which included a public holiday on Monday in the Community of Madrid.

The film, directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, has moved ahead of 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' and 'The Odyssey', which had ranked first and second, respectively, by admissions. It has not yet topped the year’s box-office revenue chart: its €37 million is below 'The Odyssey' at €38.4 million and 'Spider-Man' at €39.2 million. The film’s ticket sales received a boost during the Cinema Festival, when tickets were cheaper.

The film has also climbed to third place among Spain’s highest-grossing domestic films, passing 'Ocho apellidos catalanes', which earned €35.2 million in 2015. Ahead of it are 'Lo imposible', with €42.44 million, and 'Ocho apellidos vascos', with €56.19 million.

In the United States, 'La bola negra' has received nominations at the Hollywood Music Awards for best independent film score and best song, for 'La nieve'. It has also expanded its theatrical release there, earning $1.2 million at the box office. The film is being considered a potential Oscar contender and a serious challenger to the awards-season favourite, 'The Odyssey', according to awards observers cited in the source report.
