Italy’s Lega said the outcome of the US vote should be respected and understood, describing voting as a functioning part of democracy in a free country.
In a statement, the party said wars, international tensions and the rising cost of living had likely played a significant role in the result. It added that the effects of higher living costs fall directly on families.
Lega said it hoped the vote would help speed up an end to conflicts and a return to peace.
