President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is scheduled to undergo routine medical tests at Sírio-Libanês Hospital in São Paulo on Tuesday, November 3. He is expected to travel later in the day after meeting with several ministers, according to Brazil’s Secretariat of Social Communication (Secom).

The tests will be coordinated by doctors Roberto Kalil Filho and Ana Helena Germoglio. Before travelling, Lula is due to meet Chief of Staff Miriam Belchior, Environment and Climate Change Minister João Paulo Capobianco, and Development, Industry, Trade and Services Minister Márcio Elias Rosa.

The Planalto Palace said the tests had been scheduled for after the election and that Lula was expected to return to Brasília on Wednesday morning, November 4, and resume his regular work schedule.

In April, Lula had a procedure to remove a basal cell carcinoma from his scalp. His doctor said at the time that the cancer was localized, had not spread, and was removed without complications. Lula also underwent an intervention for pain in his right thumb, involving an injection in the wrist area.
