Italian President Sergio Mattarella has called for the armed forces to renew their capabilities as threats expand across traditional and emerging domains. In a message to Defence Minister Guido Crosetto, he said military personnel’s work is important in protecting the community from external threats and supporting respect for international law.
Mattarella said conventional conflicts continue to cause bloodshed in many parts of the world, including Europe. He also pointed to disinformation, competition in space, cyber operations and the widespread use of artificial intelligence and autonomous systems, warning that aggressive acts in these areas are growing.
He said the changing security environment requires the rapid integration of new technologies and practical capabilities to meet future challenges.
