Federal deputy-elect Fábio Félix of the PSOL party has asked the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Federal District to investigate accommodation prices for the presidential inauguration of Lula, scheduled for January 5. The request followed online reports of steep increases in rental and hotel rates for the event.

According to the report, prices rose in the days after the second round of voting. One hotel room for two people, which typically costs about R$500 per night, was listed for more than R$12,000 on inauguration day. Some hotels were charging as much as R$35,000 per night. A room in a condominium near central Brasília was listed at R$2,510, up from its usual rate of R$287.

Félix’s submission says the price differences alone do not establish that every increase is unlawful, but argues they warrant an investigation. It says consumers cannot access information about additional costs, how prices are set, or the automated criteria used by accommodation providers and platforms.

The lawmaker is asking prosecutors to open an administrative proceeding and require platforms to disclose how prices were determined, their rate histories, the criteria applied and the reasons for the differences. Félix said exceptional increases should have an objective and proportionate basis.
