The Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUCPR) is accepting applications for a free course on artificial intelligence for journalists. The classes will examine how AI tools can be used in news production and the ethical challenges associated with the technology.
The course will feature four live Zoom sessions, each running from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., for a total of six hours. Participants who attend at least 75% of the activities will receive a certificate. Applications are open through November 18 on the university’s course platform.
Topics include using AI in reporting, information verification and content production, as well as addressing disinformation and the credibility of news. According to PUCPR, the course will combine theory and practice to assess information and AI’s effects in newsrooms.
The first session, on November 10, will be led by professor Patrícia Sardeto and focus on verification, disinformation and AI governance in journalism. On November 12, professor Kleber Candiotto will discuss trust and ethics in the age of AI.
Fábio Teodoro de Souza will lead the November 16 session on reliable research, from journalism to scientific production. The course concludes on November 18 with Gabriel Bozza’s class on applying AI to journalism, from brainstorming story ideas to producing news.
