Matteo Salvini has called on his governing allies to respect the Lega’s priorities, particularly its push to move beyond the Fornero pension law and allow retirement at 64 from 2027.

Speaking on the sidelines of Eicma, Salvini said he respected other measures in the budget, including an income tax cut, an increase in the flat-tax threshold for self-employed workers and a fund for earlier retirement. He said the fund was designed to support the option of retiring at 64.

Salvini stressed that early retirement would be a choice, not a requirement. He said the fund was intended for those who want to retire at 64 from 2027, and urged allies to show the same respect for the Lega’s priorities that he said he showed for theirs.
