Spain’s women’s basketball team begins its EuroBasket 2027 qualifying campaign from November 10 to 17, playing three games in its first FIBA window. The tournament marks the team’s first gathering since winning bronze at the World Cup last September.
Coach Miguel Méndez has selected 14 players, eight of whom were part of Spain’s 2026 World Cup medal-winning squad. Marta Suárez is the only debutant in the group. The roster also includes Alba Torrens, Elena Buenavida, Raquel Carrera, Maite Cazorla, Paula Ginzo, Iyana Martín, Mariona Ortiz, Helena Pueyo, Txell Alarcón, María Araújo, Aina Ayuso, Irati Etxarri and Andrea Vilaró.
Méndez said the expanded squad reflects the unusual schedule, with three matches to be played in around 10 days. He added that there would be no cuts from the 14-player group, and that player rotation would be important during a busy period of the club season. He described the selection as a continuation of the team’s recent work and said players unavailable for this window remain in consideration for future squads.
Spain’s fixtures are: against the Czech Republic in Oviedo on Tuesday, November 10, at 8:30 p.m.; away to Bulgaria in Samokov on Saturday, November 14, at 6 p.m.; and away to Croatia in Poreč on Tuesday, November 17, at 6 p.m.
Spain is in Group J with the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Croatia. The qualifying competition features 24 teams divided into groups, with another window scheduled for February. Twelve places at EuroBasket 2027 are available through qualification; hosts Belgium, Finland, Lithuania and Sweden have already qualified. Spain will be seeking a place at the tournament, where it is set to defend its silver medal.
