Luis Pedro Marco de la Peña, president of Spain’s rail infrastructure operator Adif, has submitted his resignation to Transport Minister Carlos Cuerpo, according to a Spanish government official. Local media first reported the decision.
Adif oversees the country’s rail infrastructure, signaling and traffic control. The organization has faced intense scrutiny after last week’s crash near Urda, in Toledo, which claimed 69 lives.
The resignation is the second linked to the disaster in 24 hours. It is also Cuerpo’s first notable action since taking over the ministry from Oscar Puente, who resigned on Tuesday night after a lengthy hearing before Congress’ Permanent Deputation, where allies and opponents alike called for him to step down.
