São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas is expected to change the leadership of at least three state departments to make room for political allies. Changes at the Tourism and Travel, Sports, and Women’s Policy departments are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Separate changes are also planned at the Civil House and the Environment department.
The state government is also looking for a replacement for Health Secretary Eleuses Paiva, who has held the post since Tarcísio took office in 2023 and has asked to leave the administration.
At Tourism and Travel, Ana Aidar, a technical appointee who took over in January after Roberto de Lucena left, is expected to be replaced by a nominee from Tarcísio’s party, Republicanos. The Liberal Party (PL) is expected to choose the next head of the Women’s Policy department, currently led by police delegate Adriana Liporoni.
A new appointment is also expected at Sports. The position may go to a nominee from Republicanos or the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the party of former secretary Helena Reis, who left to run for state legislature. Claudia Carletto currently leads the department.
Discussions about the next administration intensified after the second round of the presidential election. Tarcísio had delayed decisions on his new cabinet while campaigning for PL candidate Flávio Bolsonaro. Technical officials who might have moved to Brasília if Bolsonaro had won are expected to remain in the state government, including Education Secretary Renato Feder.
One of the major changes in the administration’s inner circle is the planned move of Natalia Resende from the Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics department to the Civil House, a senior post close to the governor. She would replace Nerylson Lima, who has held the position since March. Tarcísio has praised Resende and selected her for the team coordinating the government program for his next term.
Roberto Carneiro, the Republicanos state chairman in São Paulo and secretary of Government and Institutional Relations, is expected to remain in his post. He took over earlier this year after Gilberto Kassab left to run as Ronaldo Caiado’s running mate and is not expected to return to the state government.
