TikTok’s growth in Spain has slowed for the first time since the platform began appearing in official statistics on social media use. The application was used by 28.6% of internet users during the second quarter of 2026, below the levels recorded in previous measurements, according to data from the National Markets and Competition Commission’s (CNMC) Household Panel.

The decline has not changed TikTok’s position in the ranking, where it remains the third most-used social network. Instagram, owned by Meta, consolidated its lead after reaching 61.1% of internet users. Facebook, also part of Meta, ranked second with 52.6%.

The main positions have remained broadly stable, but TikTok’s latest result marks a significant change after a period of sustained growth in the CNMC’s measurements. The data indicate a loss of momentum, although they do not establish whether this is a temporary fluctuation or the beginning of a longer-term trend.

WhatsApp continues to dominate messaging and internet calls

WhatsApp remains Spain’s most widely used instant-messaging application, with a reach of 95.3% among internet users. Instagram also has a presence in this area, being used for messaging by one in four users, while Telegram records a share of 16.8%.

WhatsApp is likewise the leading service for internet calls and video calls. Some 68.9% of users rely on the application for these contacts. The other alternatives remain below 5%, except for Apple’s FaceTime, which reaches 6.5%.

Google leads in search, app distribution and navigation

The CNMC study also shows Google’s dominance across several other digital services. Its search engine is used by 92.9% of internet users, while Google Play Store leads the app-distribution market with a 65.1% share. Apple’s App Store accounts for close to 20%.

Google Maps is the preferred navigation application among 91.6% of smartphone users who use GPS services. Waze reaches 13.7%, up 2.2 percentage points from the same period a year earlier. Apple Maps records an 8.7% share.

The figures come from the CNMC’s first-half 2026 Household Panel. The study is based on a representative sample of 6,009 households and 8,853 people across Spain.
