President Trump said Tuesday night that he was “absolutely willing” to accept the midterm election results and prepared to work with Democrats. In a phone interview with The New York Times, he said he expected the parties would find a way to work together.
Trump blamed Republican losses on the fact that he was not on the ballot. He said he had no regrets about endorsing candidates including Senator Darline Graham of South Carolina and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, both of whom lost their Senate bids.
Speaking shortly before 10:30 p.m. as he watched results at the White House, Trump commented on Graham’s defeat and asked how Senator Lindsey Graham would have performed. The article notes that Lindsey Graham died in July.
Trump also described his decision to go to war with Iran as “very wise.” At the time of the interview, Democrats were on track to take control of both the House and the Senate.
