The 2026 US midterm elections will determine who controls the next Congress. Maps and graphics tracking the results are being updated as votes are counted.
In the Senate, each state has two seats regardless of population, and senators serve six-year terms. Roughly one-third of the chamber is elected every two years. Voters in this election are choosing 35 of the Senate’s 100 members.
Seven Senate contests drew particular attention during the campaign, with both Republicans and Democrats seeing opportunities to win. Michigan is the only one of those states where Democrats are defending a seat; Republicans currently hold the seats in the other six. Graphics show vote shares and counting progress in selected races.
All 435 seats in the House of Representatives are being contested. Each congressional district elects one representative, and districts are designed to represent roughly equal numbers of people. As a result, geographically large districts in the West do not carry more weight in the House than densely populated urban districts.
