After several mostly stable days, Atlantic storm systems are expected to bring a marked change in the weather from Saturday, according to Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Rain is forecast across large parts of the mainland and the Canary Islands through the weekend and into Monday. Aemet spokesperson Rubén del Campo said a deep Atlantic depression will shape conditions during this period.
Southerly winds are expected to make temperatures milder across the country, particularly overnight. Minimum temperatures could rise by as much as 8 degrees compared with Friday, and frosts are forecast to disappear. On Saturday, daytime highs are expected to increase in the south but fall in the northeast.
Thursday is forecast to be more settled across much of the mainland, with mostly clear or lightly clouded skies. However, a low-pressure system in the Mediterranean is expected to maintain unsettled conditions in the eastern third of the mainland and the Balearic Islands, where showers could be locally heavy or very heavy, with thunderstorms. Rain may also affect Alborán at first before easing from south to north.
Aemet has issued a rain alert for the Balearic Islands for Thursday. Snow is expected in the Pyrenees above 1,700–1,900 metres. Daytime temperatures are forecast to rise in the Mediterranean and Cantabrian regions and the northern plateau, with local increases in inland areas of the Valencian Community bringing highs close to 25 degrees.
