Bayern Munich defeated Atlético Madrid 2-0 at the Estadio Metropolitano, earning a commanding Champions League win despite several high-profile absences. Lennart Karl opened the scoring in the 54th minute, and Konrad Laimer added a second in the 74th.

Bayern controlled much of the first half and created several chances against an Atlético side that defended deep. Karl, Harry Kane and Josip Stanisic all threatened before the break, but the teams went into halftime scoreless.

The breakthrough came when Karl fought for the ball against Robin Le Normand and finished while falling. Atlético pushed forward after conceding, but Bayern held firm. Dayot Upamecano struck the crossbar before Kane set up Laimer to score. Upamecano later had a goal ruled out for a perceived foul.

The victory lifted Bayern to eight points in the Champions League league phase after two recent draws. Manuel Neuer returned in goal after missing five matches with a foot injury, while Bayern were still without coach Vincent Kompany and players including Luis Díaz, Jamal Musiala, Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry.

Laimer said the team had confidence in its squad and believed it could have scored more. Bayern are due to face Lille away on November 25 and Slavia Prague at home on December 8.
