Around ten Catholic organisations and Church bodies in Catalonia have declared their support for the general strike on November 11, saying their backing reflects a Christian commitment to social change and human dignity.

In a joint statement, the groups refer to Catholic social teaching on the right to decent work, a roof and living conditions that allow people to develop. They connect these rights to what Pope Francis called the “three Ts”: work, a roof and land, describing them as sacred rights worth defending.

The signatories point to persistent job insecurity, inadequate wages and difficulties accessing decent housing amid what they call abusive rents. They say these pressures particularly affect young people and workers, and argue for building alliances and collective responses.

The statement describes the strike as a historic right and says Christians should recognise the struggle as one for justice and human dignity. It concludes: “We join in for the right to live.”

The signatories include JOC Nacional de Catalunya i les Illes, GOAC, ACO, MIJAC, Coordinadora de Dones Creients, the Interdiocesan Secretariat of Workers’ Pastoral Care in Catalonia, and workers’ pastoral bodies in Terrassa, Lleida and Barcelona.
