CD Tenerife announced on Tuesday that forward Jesús de Miguel Alameda had died at 8:00 a.m. local time. He had been in serious condition after colliding with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during a match the previous day, and the club had earlier reported a deterioration in his health.
The game at Tenerife’s Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium was stopped in the 108th minute after De Miguel fell to the pitch. He was taken to Hospital Universitario de La Candelaria.
The club said De Miguel had suffered a neurological deterioration after previously describing his condition as stable, though serious. It also asked for respect for the privacy of his family, who thanked people for their messages of support.
According to Cadena COPE, De Miguel suffered cardiac arrest after a heavy blow during the match. Medical staff restored his pulse through CPR, and the broadcaster reported that he later regained spontaneous breathing but remained unconscious.
