Two statements from industry groups offer sharply different views of Germany’s electric-vehicle charging infrastructure. The German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW) praised the network, describing it as dense for both passenger cars and trucks amid growing vehicle registrations.
Hildegard Müller, president of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), argued that more needs to be done. She said drivers need confidence that they can charge easily and quickly wherever they are, and called for greater ambition in expanding public charging options, particularly as electric-car registrations rise significantly.
The statements highlight an ongoing disagreement between the energy and automotive sectors over whether charging provision is sufficient for drivers.
