A 33-year-old woman from Molina de Segura died on Monday after being attacked with a bladed weapon in Murcia’s La Fama neighbourhood. National Police arrested a 45-year-old man after launching a search operation in the area.

The incident occurred early in the morning on Calle Calí Josefa Fernández Romero, near Calle Santa Rita. The woman suffered several stab wounds, including injuries to her neck and side.

Emergency services received the alert at around 9:34 a.m. after a local resident reported an altercation. National Police, Murcia Local Police and a Mobile Emergency Unit from the Murcian Health Service attended the scene.

Medical staff treated the woman at the location but were unable to save her because of the severity of her injuries. Her body was later taken to the Institute of Legal Medicine for an autopsy.

The suspected attacker had left the scene, prompting police to deploy an operation to locate him. He was arrested shortly afterwards.

The Provincial Judicial Police Brigade is investigating the circumstances of the killing. According to initial information, authorities are not treating the case as gender-based violence, as early indications suggest that the victim and the arrested man did not have a romantic relationship.
