German Chancellor Friedrich Merz received Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Chancellery in Berlin. Zelenskyy said the focus of the visit was diplomatic coordination, according to the liveblog report. He also shared a video of his arrival in the German capital.
The visit took place as Russian attacks continued to affect Ukrainian infrastructure and civilians. In the southern Odesa region, emergency power cuts left hundreds of thousands of households without electricity after an attack severely damaged a facility operated by private energy company DTEK. The company said the site had come under repeated attack over the past two months and that repairs were expected to take a considerable time.
In Kharkiv, more than 60 people were reported injured in an attack on a hospital. Mayor Ihor Terekhov said explosions damaged around 1,000 windows in the hospital building and nearby homes. He said the city was being targeted with ballistic missiles and glide bombs.
The death toll from an attack on Komyshuvakha, in Zaporizhzhia region, rose to 31, according to regional administration head Mykhailo Semikin. Five people were injured and 48 remained missing as search and rescue operations continued. Zelenskyy said the strikes hit a school used for humanitarian purposes. He alleged that more than ten bombs were dropped on the settlement, including one that struck a shelter.
Elsewhere, Russia said it had intercepted nearly 500 Ukrainian drones. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 493 drones had been heading toward the capital by morning, with 187 shot down as they approached the city. Russian local authorities also said a Ukrainian drone attack damaged an oil refinery in Yaroslavl, injuring two employees.
The liveblog also reported that a multinational Ukraine force held its first exercise in Poland. The force was proposed by France, Ukraine and the United Kingdom as part of the Coalition of the Willing, with deployment dependent on an agreement with Russia on a ceasefire.
