Germany is not at war, but it is no longer considered to be in a state of complete peace, according to a POLITICO-berlin-playbook/">Berlin Playbook episode featuring Lieutenant General Alexander Sollfrank, commander of the Bundeswehr’s Operational Command. In an interview with Rixa Fürsen, Sollfrank addresses what would happen if Germany were attacked militarily.

The episode says a conventional surprise attack is considered unlikely because of extensive monitoring. At the same time, it describes sabotage and espionage as part of an ongoing hybrid conflict affecting the country.

The discussion also examines Germany’s “Operational Plan,” which would come into force in a crisis if the country became a logistical hub for tens of thousands of NATO troops. The plan involves more than the military: civilian authorities, police and the Bundeswehr would need to coordinate their actions to support credible deterrence and protect Europe’s security architecture.

The episode is part of Berlin Playbook, a daily podcast from Rixa Fürsen, Maximilian Stascheit and the POLITICO team covering German and international politics.
