Stellantis has introduced Smart Compact Van versions of its compact vans, aiming to strengthen its position in the commercial vehicle market with lower prices and practical features for professional users. The new entry-level models cost up to €3,000 less in electric form and up to €1,250 less with combustion engines than their conventional range counterparts.

Built at the company’s plants in Vigo, Spain, and Mangualde, Portugal, the vans are sold under four brands: Citroën Berlingo Van FIRST, Peugeot Partner ACTIVE, Fiat Professional Doblò Easy PRO and Opel Combo START. Orders opened in Spain in September. Prices start at €21,500 for the petrol version, €22,000 for diesel and €27,800 for the electric model, excluding VAT and transport.

The range is designed to offer a more affordable purchase price while retaining cargo capacity. It has two body lengths, with load volumes from 3.3 to 4.4 cubic metres and payloads ranging from 650 kilograms to one tonne. Buyers can choose petrol, diesel or electric power, with the electric version offering up to 270 kilometres of range.

The electric model uses a 42 kWh battery, compared with 50 kWh in the standard electric range. It supports AC charging at up to 11 kW and, as an option, DC charging at up to 100 kW. Stellantis says the smaller battery is part of the adjustments made to position the vehicle at a lower price.

Equipment has also been simplified to reduce costs. Changes include a plastic front designed to lower manufacturing and repair costs, while features such as wireless charging, fog lights and the passenger airbag are removed or made optional on these versions.

A key addition is Flexiseat, a foldable passenger seat that can free up space when it is not needed. The optional Modutable system can turn the area into a work surface or a table for breaks. Storage features include a removable centre console, closed dashboard compartments and space beneath the seat for a laptop, tablet or documents.

Stellantis Pro One Spain director Diego Rey said the company wants to increase its market share and described the new range as a tool to maintain its leading position. The company reported a market share of more than 34% in Spain’s commercial vehicle market and 49% in compact vans, a category accounting for about 43% of the national market. According to global marketing head Nuno Marques, professional customers are prioritising price and reliable service, prompting the group to combine a lower-cost entry offer with personalisation, conversion and after-sales services.
