Kellogg’s has replaced rice grains in its UK Rice Krispies and Coco Pops with corn flour and rice flour, citing changing weather conditions that have disrupted supplies and affected the quality and availability of grains used in its cereals.

A company spokesperson said the updated recipes had been carefully assessed and that customer feedback had been considered. The change follows dry weather in key rice-producing countries in Asia, which has reduced harvests and pushed prices higher.

The new recipes mean packaging will carry a “contains wheat gluten” warning. Kellogg’s said the cereals will continue to meet UK standards for fat, salt and sugar, and that their fibre, vitamin D and iron content will remain unchanged. They will also continue to contain no artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners.

The recipes for Rice Krispies products in the United States and Canada are not changing, according to a spokesperson for Kellogg’s North American business. Those products will continue to be made with real rice.
